What is balayage?
Balayage is a freehand color technique. Your stylist paints lightener onto the surface of the hair by hand, instead of saturating from root to tip with foils. The result is a soft, blended lift that reads brighter toward the ends, much like sun-lightened hair.
Because the color is painted on, the grow-out is gradual. There is no hard line at the root, so the time between visits can stretch. Ombré is a related look, with a deeper root that melts into lighter ends for more contrast.
